The Blogger Interview

IMG_7349

I’m so freaking excited about this post because Rachel from Willow Tea tagged me and Rachel is awesome and basically the bomb dot com and I’ll just stop fangirling now and get on with this post.

How did you get into blogging?

I’ve done the blogging thing a couple of times already. I’ve had a book blog at one point and before that I had a blog called What To Do When You’re Bored (#noshame). I’ve just always loved the idea of having my own little space on the internet so on January 1st, 2014, I decided to give blogging another go. But this time, I didn’t want to be confined by a certain type of blog, I just wanted to write. Thinking about it now, I guess I wanted to help people through my writing as well. I mean that’s why I wrote a What To Do When You’re Bored and a book blog I guess.

WOW I’M LEARNING SO MUCH ABOUT MYSELF ALREADY

What advice would you give to a blogger just starting out?

Don’t compare yourself to other bloggers. I am absolute sh*t at this. I do it all the freaking time. I worry that I should be looking at my analytics more or that I should be optimizing each post for search engines or whatever. But just because everyone else is doing it, that doesn’t mean you have to. Let loose, run free, just be yourself, and wholeheartedly enjoy it! 🙂

What would be your dream campaign?

If I’m being honest here, I don’t totally understand this question, but I think I would want to be part of a campaign on education reform because it’s probably the issue I feel mostly strongly about. Nothing frustrates me more than the U.S. education system and how it’s run.

Do you have a plan for your blog?

Yes. I plan to post 3-4 times a week from now on with one of those posts being a YouTube video. I want to have all my posts written and scheduled by Sunday evening so I don’t have to worry about getting stuff up during the week and at the last minute. I plan to be super organised like Cliona. But mostly, I plan to enjoy my blog more and compare myself to other less.

What do you think about rankings?

I pay attention to them, but I try not to care, because that’s not why I started this blog. I do like looking at my analytics though and seeing which blogpost are most popular. I’ve never created a blogpost because a similar one was popular, but for some reason I like looking at all the stats. It’s probs just because I enjoy technology so much and think it’s cool. I don’t think that really relates the question. Tevs.

Now is the time, of course, to tag other bloggers who should feel obligated I will kindly ask to answer these questions as well:

Cliona from Cliona Hill

Okay so maybe it’s just one blogger, but hey I’m not going to tag a bunch of people’s blogs who I don’t read on a regular basis and the only two blogs I read these days are Rachel’s and Cliona’s. Unfortunately I can’t tag Rachel because she already tagged me. So Cliona it’s all you girl. (You should go follow both of them by the way, they’re both beautiful, wonderful people.)

UPDATE: I forgot I had other friends. I also tag Gretchen from Glitter, Glamour, Glow to do this. She’s a wonderful person and although she hasn’t posted anything yet (other than her welcome post) I know her blog is going to be amazing.

Oh and please let me know what your answers are to these questions down below.

you’re wonderful

have a great day

Modcloth Shoe Wishlist

Modcloth Shoe Wishlist

Modcloth has an amazing selection of everything––clothing, accessories, little gift items, etc––but they have an especially amazing collection of shoes. Their shoes are beautiful and if I had the money to buy every single pair, I probably would. As I was trying to find some new black booties the other day, I decided to have a little look around ModCloth and see if I saw anything I liked. This ended up being very dangerous. I’m now lusting after numerous pairs of shoes and I thought I’d take a minute to share some of them with you. (Even as I’m writing this I’m finding new ones that I love.)

I love those mint heels simply because I don’t have any shoes in that color and I thought the heels were a nice height and wouldn’t be too much. I feel the same way about the powder blue heels. I especially love the vintage vibe the blue ones have going on. That style would definitely fit in with most of the things in my closet. I think my absolute favorites are those cat heels though. I NEED THEM IN MY LIFE. I don’t think I can justify shelling out $65 dollars for yet another pair of black shoes. *sigh* Christmas maybe?? The beige Mary Jane heels are probably the least exciting of the bunch, but I want a neutral heel and I loved the strap that goes across the foot. The last pair are the perfect, vintagey, go with everything shoe and oh my goodness they’re so pretty. If they were available in my size I would buy them, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be.

Which pair of shoes is your favorite?

The Grand Budapest Hotel

Version 2

The Grand Budapest Hotel is a wonderful movie. It’s about how the owner of this fictitious hotel came to eventually own it. This movie was beautifully shot, had a quirky little story line, and seemed kind of old timey in a way that wasn’t cheesy. I loved the humor in this movie. It wasn’t a slapstick comedy, but it had a some good lines and some quirky scenes that just made you want to smile. Gustave, one of the main characters, if my favorite. He’s so sassy and has a really good soul. Honestly, this is probably one of my favorite movies now and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a beautifully shot movie with a simple, but fun, story line.

Have you seen this movie? What did you think?

Refreshing Summer Drinks: Argo Tea

Version 2As you may have heard me mention in my July Favorites video, I have been loving Argo Tea lately. This isn’t a sponsored post, I just love this stuff so much that I thought I’d give you a little review of all the ones that are available at my supermarket. Argo Tea does make other flavors, these are just the ones that are available to me. Also, I just looked it up, and they have actual locations, including one that on the Northeastern campus in Boston. So if I decide I want to go to Northeastern I can have Argo Tea EVERYDAY!

As I mentioned in my July Favorites video, Hibiscus Tea Squeeze is definitely my favorite of these five Argo Teas. The sourness of the hibiscus tea is perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the lemonade, making it perfect for my taste buds. The Hibiscus Tea Sangria is my least favorite of these five. It honestly just tastes like plastic. I’m not a fan. The three other ones I like equally because they’re all so different. The Green Tea Ginger Twist was the one that originally got me into trying Argo Tea so this was actually my favorite before I tried the Hibiscus Tea Squeeze. It’s not super ginger tasting––which actually kind of disappoints me––but instead balances the ginger flavor with a nice blend of green tea and lemon. The Mojitea is a take on a mojito and is a refreshingly blend of peppermint tea and lime juice. This one tastes best when it’s ice cold. The Carolina Honey is the sweetest of the five, but it’s not overly sweet and it doesn’t taste fake. The name fits it well as you can definitely taste that honey flavor. This one is probably the friendliest of the five, so if you’re not sure if you’d like any of the other ones, I’d give this one a try.

Please let me know if you try any of these and what you think of them if you do! I just think these are the perfect summer drink!

What’s your favorite summer drink?

PLL Finale Reactions (SPOILERS!)

I made the decision not to live tweet the PLL finale because I didn’t want to spoil anything for anyone, especially for anyone in the UK who won’t be able to watch the episode until after it comes out in the US. However, I did want to share my reactions with you guys in some way so this post is going to be all about my reactions while watching the episode. Basically, live tweeting, but not on Twitter. So if you didn’t notice the giant words in the title, there are SPOILERS in this post. Please don’t ruin it for yourself. Enjoy!

So I just wanted to start off by saying that as of Saturday, August 8th, I was not caught up on season 6 of Pretty Little Liars at all. In fact, I still had 3 more episodes of season 5 to catch up on. In fact, as I’m writing this (at 1:22 pm EST) I am in the middle of watching episode 4 of season 6. Let me repeat. The PLL finale comes out in SIX AND A HALF HOURS and I have five and a half episodes more to watch. It’s entirely possible of course even when I factor in the two hours it’s going to take me to get off work, go home, get my stuff together so I can go over to my friend’s house for a viewing party, and drive over there. That leaves me 4.5 hours to watch 5.5 episodes. EEEEEK!

Summer Skincare Routine

Hey lovelies! Before we know it, summer is going to be over (*cries*). But before that happens, I wanted to share my summer skincare routine with you and let you know how I’ve been keeping my skin looking beautiful during these wonderfully warm months. You watch my video on my full skincare routine down below or go to the link here.

I didn’t mention it in the video, but one of the things that has been key to keeping my skin so clear these past few months is the fact that I’ve been doing a lot of cooking for myself lately. I’ve stayed away from eating out too much and have refrained from consuming the copious amounts of sugar I tend to eat during the summer months (although I do still have a soft spot for ice cream). It is so important to treat your body just as nicely on the inside as you treat it on the outside. If you’re looking for some inspiration, Aloha, a brand committed to health, happiness, and beauty from the inside out, has a bunch of recipes on their website, which all look amazing. Personally, I’m eyeing the Superfood Mango Lassi Smoothie Bowl.

Let me know what you think of my skincare routine and if you try any of the recipes from Aloha’s website! I love hearing from you guys!

Things I Learned From College Tours and Other Things I Never Posted

Things I Never Posted

Hey guys! So I thought I’d do a little throwback post today (#tbt) as I was digging through my drafts box today and I found a bunch of posts that were never finished and since I don’t like to waste anything I thought I’d put them in a little post for you! All the titles in bold are what the titles of the posts would have been, had I ever posted them. All the words in (italics and parentheses) are the comments I made after I copy and pasted the posts from their drafts. It’s something a little different, but let me know if you like it!

Things I Learned From College Tours

  1. Keds do not make good walking shoes
  2. Neither do flip flops
  3. Tortilla chips do not make a good lunch
  4. Drinking coffee right before a tour is a really bad idea (I really don’t want to talk about it)

April Favorites

  1. Spotify’s Pop Ballads Playlist (this playlist was my JAM for the longest time (side note: I still love it))
  2. Simple Micellar Water (the best discovery ever for all us Americans who don’t have micellar water before in the US, UNTIL NOW)
  3. We the Wild (honestly don’t even remember what their music sounds like, but I’ll give it a go again and let you guys know)
  4. James Arthur (LOVE THIS GUYS MUSIC! Thank you to the friend who told me to go listen to him. You know who you are.)

Things I’ve Been Loving | Podcasts

So I haven’t tried out a whole lot of new beauty products this month and unfortunately I haven’t found anything new and amazing that I think you NEED to try. However, I do have a little non-beauty related favorite that I’ve wanted to talk about for a while now. (Oh gosh I think I’m building this up way more than I need to.)

Anyways, this month I’ve been loving PODCASTS! More specifically, Tyler Oakley’s Psychobabble and (I never finished this post apparently, but I was going to say that I had also been enjoying Not Too Deep with Grace Helbig. I no longer have time to listen to podcasts that often, so I’m very behind on all the ones I used to listen to, but I remember liking them a lot! I still listen to the This American Life podcast occasionally. Ira Glass is so good and the stories I hear on that podcast are unreal. Definitely worth a listen.)

I hope you enjoyed reading this post, as it was something a little different and let me know in the comments what posts you’ve never published (for whatever reason). LOTS OF LOVE, Gwen ❤
