A Reflection on 2014

2014 has gone by so fast. I can remember exactly what I was doing this time last year and I think that has a lot to do with the creation of this blog. I think this blog has helped give me a different perspective on life this year and I’ve stopped looking so far ahead in life. Instead, I think month to month, and life has gone by so much faster.

This is also the time to look back on last year’s resolutions to see if we’ve achieved them. Last year, my New Year’s Resolutions were to: post one blogpost on this blog every Sunday for the next year, eat healthier, and do a photo challenge each month for a year (if you want to see the full blogpost from last year click here). Needless to say, the only one I really achieved was the first one and even then, only sort of. I definitely posted enough to fulfill that resolution, but I didn’t post regularly. Hopefully, that will change this year. I definitely didn’t eat healthier or do a photo challenge every month. I don’t eat badly anyways, so that wasn’t too much of a problem, but I definitely don’t exercise enough, so that will need to change this year. I’m also sad that I didn’t fulfill the photo challenge resolution because I love photography, and honestly I completely forgot about this resolution. Hopefully I’ll be taking more photos during this upcoming year.

Honestly, I can’t say that 2014 was the best year I’ve ever had, but I’ve still done some pretty exciting things. I started a blog, I started receiving a Birchbox subscription, I visited London, I went to concerts, etc. I know that 2015 is going to be freaking amazing though. I’ve already started accidentally writing 2015 on my homework and my notes. That’s how I know 2015 is going to be an freaking amazing year. I’m so ready. I love you all so much and I’ll see you tomorrow!

The Christmas Tag!

Favorite Christmas movie?

Either Home Alone or Love Actually. They’re both so good!

Are you on the Naughty list or the Nice list?

I think I’ve been pretty good this year, so I’ll say the Nice list.

Have you ever had a White Christmas?

Many times actually! Unfortunately not this year, just lots of rain!

Where do you usually spend your holiday?

We usually spend our holidays at home. If we ever spend Christmas with our extended family, they come to us.

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

No, never! I can’t even imagine doing such a thing! I would never be able to choose and most of our presents aren’t even under the tree until Christmas morning anyways.

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and Rudolph. YES I GOT IT.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

It depends. In the past we’ve used a fake tree, then at one point we were using both a fake tree AND a real tree, but this year it’s all real folks!

Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?

That’s a hard one. Honestly, I do love receiving gifts, but not everyone knows you so well. Although gift giving can be really stressful, finding a good gift for someone, giving it to them, and seeing their face is a lot more satisfying that receiving gifts that you may not always want.

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

Home is really the only place I want to be during the holiday season, but my family decided that we were going on a vacation during the holiday season, I would want to go to Bali, Indonesia. That place is amazing.

Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?

I am a PRO. There is something so satisfying about wrapping a gift beautifully and making it look professional.

What made you realize the truth about Santa?

WAIT, WHAT. Just kidding, just kidding. Ummm, it was a multitude of things. I kind of just slowly realized over a period of time. I remember my grandmother asking my mom once if Santa hung our stockings on the fireplace. My grandmother was just trying to make sure that the magic wouldn’t be ruined if I read a book that she wanted me to read, but the fact that she had to ask made me question everything.

Do you make New Years resolutions? Do you stick to them?

Every year I make them and I almost never stick to them. I sort of stuck to one of my resolutions from last year (the one where I said I would post every Sunday), since that would mean 52 posts per year and I posted 93 times this year (94 with this post). I didn’t post every Sunday though. There have definitely been periods of time when I’ve not posted for a while.

What makes the Holidays special for you?

Family. Without my family, Christmas wouldn’t be what it is.

Merry Christmas you lovely people! I hope it was as amazing and wonderful as you all are! (Did you enjoy the wonderful photo of my family and I putting our star on our tree?)

Comfy Cozy

I am in love with this flannel that I bought during Black Friday. It’s so warm and comfy while still looking really cute. The other day Rachel from Willow Tea posted an outfit on her blog and in that post she talked about how we’re not perfect, we’re still growing and evolving, and how each outfit is a mark of the evolution of our style. I totally agree. This outfit isn’t perfect. In fact, it’s probably one of my lazier outfits and I’d much rather be wearing Bean Boots. What’s important though is you feel cute, because that’s what makes your style, your style. (Also, thank you to my sister for taking these pictures!)

What do you think of this outfit?

Things/Links I’ve Been Loving

Hey guys! Happy Sunday! I just wanted to share with you some of the things I’ve been loving this week (the title’s pretty self-explanatory, but I thought I needed an intro). So let’s jump into it!

This Buzzfeed article talking about all the reasons Maine is amazing. Makes me proud to live in this state!

Ryan Higa’s (nigahiga) video, “Ninja Feeds The Homeless!” There’s an element of comedy to it, but what he did for those homeless people was really wonderful and I started bawling while watching it.

The first chapter of Zoella’s book, Girl Online. I think it’s so awesome that she got to write a book and I know it was a dream of hers. Honestly, I was didn’t have very high expectations, but after reading the first chapter, I know I’m going to have to pick up a copy.

The song, “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” by Darlene Love. It came onto the radio the other day and for some reason, it just made so happy to listen to it.

I made chicken satay with peanut sauce for dinner the other night and oh my goodness it was so good. I’ve never actually cooked anything on the grill before, so that was an experience in itself.

Also, I got a new phone not too long ago and it’s so nice to have a phone that actually works and that actually responds when I try to do something on it.

I hope you enjoyed this post! I know it’s a little bit different from what I usually post, but I actually really like writing these so maybe I’ll make it a weekly thing.

What have you been loving this week? Leave me some links below!

Black Friday Haul

Here’s what I have to say about Black Friday: it’s not worth it. Granted, I got to the mall at 6am (not at midnight or anything) so I don’t know if there were better deals earlier…? My instinct is to say no, but maybe that’s just my area. Although I really didn’t get any super-mega-awesome deals, I still had a lot of fun and picked up some awesome stuff.

IMG_1630 - Version 2First stop: Forever 21! I LOVE this jean jacket. It’s so comfortable and it looks so effortlessly cool with anything I wear. In terms of the dress, I loved the pattern  and the cut out on back (sorry I don’t have a picture), but I’m not sure yet if I’m going to keep it. I put it on to wear to school on Monday and I just wasn’t sure. It’s a small, but it has a loose, flowy fit, which is something I’m not used to, as my dresses are usually pretty cinched at the waist and then flare. Maybe I’ll post a picture of myself in it next week and you guys can see what you think. Also, I’m sorry. I cannot, for the life of me find the link to the dress on the Forever 21 website. If I find it, I’ll let you know!

IMG_1641 - Version 2Also from Forever 21 is this onesie (similar). It’s super comfortable and absolutely adorable. It doesn’t fit exactly right – the sleeves are bit too short – but they’re just pajamas! Plus, you can’t beat the price!

IMG_1778 - Version 2The last thing that I bought from Forever 21 was a pair of tights. This was the only Black Friday deal I got at Forever 21. It was 50% sale items in there and since these tights were marked down to $5, I got them for $2.50! Excuse the awkward leg photo, but I wanted to show you the pattern.

IMG_1660 - Version 2I was so excited about this purchase. I don’t usually shop at American Eagle because they’re just a little bit out of my price range, but it was 40% off the entire store (which is a deal that I believe is still going on online) and well, I take the opportunities that are presented to me (gosh, I sound pretentious). This flannel feels like it’s made out of quality material, the colors are great, and the hood is a nice, cozy touch.

IMG_1752 - Version 2A shopping trip could not be complete without a trip to Lush and while I was in there, I picked up a bunch of stuff from their Christmas line. All the products I picked up were of that same warm, spicy scent that I love about the holidays. From left to right, top to bottom, the products pictured are the Holly Golightly bubble bar, the Yog Nog soap, two of the Melting Snowman luxury bath melts, and a sample of the Hot Toddy shower gel. I can’t wait to try all of these products!

IMG_1703 - Version 2Last, but not least, we went to Target. We actually went on Saturday, not Friday, for this one, but hey, it was still 40% all women’s clothing, so close enough right? Anyways, I saw this flannel in Target and I was like, “I like you, flannel.” So I bought it. I think it’s different enough from the other flannel I bought (different colors, no hood, etc.) to be a good addition to my closet (again why do I sound so formal?).

Okay well that is all I have for you guys today! I could ramble on about my purchases forever, but I’ll cut myself off here. I hope you enjoyed this post and I’ll talk to you guys soon!

What have you bought recently?
